Tips to maintain oral care on vacation
The expert dentist, Dr. Rosane Menezes Faria, explains the importance of performing oral hygiene during days off to avoid discomfort and disease.
Vacation time is coming, many families enjoy traveling or touring the city itself. Regardless of the planned roadmap, oral hygiene habits should be part of the new routine to ensure the perfect smile and prevent the proliferation of bacteria that cause oral diseases such as gingivitis, tenderness and tooth decay.
To help maintain oral holiday hygiene habits, Dr. Rosane lists four essential tips below:
- Luggage: For people who travel at this time of year, it is important to carry all oral care products used throughout the year. “Brush, toothpaste, floss and mouthwash are basic items. Who is still in treatment is important to consult the dentist, so he can prescribe medicines or products to relieve possible discomfort during the trip,” explains the expert.
- Food: On holiday it is common for many people to end up consuming more foods such as sweets, sodas and even processed juices. “The acidity and sugars in these foods wear out tooth enamel, make them more sensitive, and facilitate the accumulation of tooth decay and inflammation in the gums. Therefore, it is necessary to be aware of the amount ingested and always brush your teeth and floss after meals,” points out.
- Orthodontic braces: Those who use orthodontic braces, whether fixed or mobile, should redouble their attention and care with their oral health. According to the expert, misuse and neglect with mobile appliances, for example, can lead to breakage or deformation, compromising orthodontic treatment. If this happens, it is recommended to keep the device even broken so that the responsible professional can evaluate the possibility of recovering it.
- Trauma: In case of falls or accidents that compromise oral health, it is important to consult a professional dentist as soon as possible. “Only a healthcare professional can assess trauma and recommend the most appropriate treatment. Even in case of falls, it is important not to self-medicate and seek a dentist urgently,” concludes Rosane.
